MAH YAST

[Zarathustra spoke:]

I" Let there be invocation, with sacrifice and with prayer : to the Moon, that keeps within itself the seed of many species !

II Hail be to Ahura Mazda, and hail to all the Ahuras !  Hail be to the Moon, that keeps within itself the seed !

III Hail be to You, o Moon ! when we look at You ;  hail be to You , o Moon ! when You look at us.

IV For fourteen days the Moon does wax, and for fourteen days the Moon does wane. As long as her waxing, so long is her waning ; as long as her waning, so long is her waxing.

Who else but You is there, o Mazda ! to cause the Moon to wax and wane.

V We sacrifice to the Moon that keeps within itself the seed. Here do I look at the Moon ; and here do I perceive the Moon ! Here do I look at the Light of the Moon ; and here do I perceive the Light of the Moon !

VI The Ahuras, they stand up to reflect the Glory of the Moon onto the Earth, which was made by Mazda.

VII When the Light of the Moon waxes warmer,  golden hued Plants grow up from the Earth during the Spring.

VIII We sacrifice to the New Moons and to the full Moons : we sacrifice to the New Moon - who is so very peaceful ; and we sacrifice to the full Moon - who is so very good !

IX I shall sacrifice to the Moon, that keeps within itself the seed ; the bright, the glorious, the Water-giving, the Warmth-giving, the Wisdom-giving, the Wealth-giving, the Riches-giving, the Thoughtfulness-giving, the Freshness-giving, the Prosperity-giving, the Healing One - the Moon !"

[And Ahura Mazda concluded:]

X " I bless the sacrifice and the prayer, the strength and the vigor, of the Moon, that keeps within itself the seed of many species.

XI ASHA is the Best of All Good !"
