FARVARDIN YAST

I Ahura Mazda  spoke to Zarathustra, saying :

“Do proclaim, o pure Zarathustra ! the vigor and strength, the glory, the help and the joy that are in the Fravashis. II Do reveal how They come to help Me, how They bring assistance unto Me, those Fravashis !

III Tell how, through Their brightness and glory, o Zarathustra ! I am able to maintain that Sky, there above, that is shining and seen from afar ; which encompasses this Earth all around.

IV It is through their brightness and glory, o Zarathustra !  that I am able to maintain  ASHA, Who is all-encompassing, wide-expanding and Health-giving. He is worthy of sacrifice in the material World ; worthy of prayer in the material World. V He is Life-increasing and Holy ;  Health-increasing and Holy ;  Country-increasing and Holy ; He makes pure the seed of all males ; He makes pure the womb of all females for bringing forth. [procreation] VI He makes that all females bring forth in safety ; He puts milk in the breasts of all females in the right measure and the right quality !

VII That large atmosphere, which is known afar, which is as large as the whole of all the Waters that run along the Earth , that run powerfully from the heights, down to the Sea : VIII from that Cosmic Sea of Mine alone it is, that all the Waters do flow, that spread over all the seven Kingdoms !

IX This Sea of Mine alone  does go on bringing Waters, both in Summer and in Winter. X This Sea of Mine does also purify the seed in males, the womb in females, the milk in females’ breasts.

XI Through the brightness of the Fravashis, o Zarathustra ! I am able to maintain the wide Earth, that was made by the Ahuras ; XII the large and broad Earth, that bears so much that is fine, that bears all the bodily World, the Live and the dead, and the high Mountains, rich in Pastures and in Waters, upon which run the many Streams and rivers, XIII upon which many kinds of Plants grow up from the Ground, to nourish animals and men, to nourish the Nations, and to help the Faithful.

XIV Through Their brightness and glory, o Zarathustra, I am able to maintain in the womb the child that has been conceived, and all creatures that dwell between the Earth and the Sky.

XV Through Their brightness and glory the Waters do run and flow forward from the never-failing Springs ; XVI through Their brightness and glory the Plants do grow up from the Earth, by the never-failing Springs. XVII Through Their brightness and glory the Winds do blow and drive down the clouds towards the never-failing Springs.

XVIII Through Their brightness and glory, the females do conceive offspring ; through Their brightness and glory they bring forth in safety ; it is through Their brightness and glory when they become blessed with children !

XIX It is through Their brightness and glory that man is born who listens well to the Holy Words of  ASHA, whom Wisdom holds dear.

XX Through Their brightness and glory the Sun does go His way ; through Their brightness and glory the Moon does go Her way ; through Their brightness and glory the Stars are going Their way."

[And Zarathustra said:]

XXI I praise,  I invoke,  I do meditate upon,  and we do sacrifice to : the good, strong and beneficent Fravashis of this Earth, who maintain the Sky, who maintain the Waters, who maintain the Earth, XXII who maintain in the womb the child that has been conceived and develop within it the bones, the hair, the entrails the feet and the sexual organs.

XXIII They give victory to Their invoker, give boons to Their lover, give Health to the sick man, give Glory to the Faithful man.

XXIV We worship the good,  strong and beneficent  Fravashis of the Earth : they are to be invoked !  Mazda did invoke Them for help, when He fixed the Sky and the Waters, the Earth and the Plants. XXV We worship the good,  strong and beneficent  Fravashis of the Earth, whose Friendship is good and Who know how to benefit. XXVI Their Friendship lasts long, and they like to stay in the Abode where They are not harmed by its dwellers ; the Fravashis who are good, who are beautiful from afar, and who are Health-giving. XXVII We worship the good,  strong and beneficent  Fravashis of the Earth, who are bounteous, valiant, and full of strength,  welfare-bestowing,  kind and Health-giving, following with the correctives of  ASHA,  as far as the Earth extends,  as far as the Rivers stretch,  as far as the Sun rises.

XXVIII When well invoked, they will come forth from the Heavens and the Earth, they, who possess the strength and the victory which Ahura has made. XXIX They are Wealth-bringing,  Boon-bringing and Holy, worthy of effort and of invocation. XXX We worship the good,  strong and beneficent  Fravashis of the Earth, who follow the paths of the Stars, the Moon, the Sun and the endless Light. XXXI And now They move around in their revolving circle forever, till They come to the time of the end of the World.

XXXII We worship the Fravashis ;  we worship Them, they are so bounteous ; we worship Them, they are so beneficent, we worship Them, they are so powerful ; we worship Them : the spiritual Light !

XXXIII We worship all the Waters ; we worship all the Plants. We worship the good,  strong and beneficent  Fravashis of the Earth.

XXXIV Of all the heavenly Ahuras we worship  Ahura Mazda, Who is the greatest, the best, the most genuine, the wisest, the finest.

XXXV We worship the good,  strong and beneficent  Ahuras, the bright Ones, Who are eternal and Holy, XXXVI Who are all seven of one Thought ; Who are all seven of one Speech ; Who are all seven of one Deed ;  Whose Thought is the same ;  Whose Speech is the same ;  Whose Deed is the same, Namely, that of the Creator :  Ahura Mazda. XXXVII They can see each other’s Soul : thinking of good Thoughts,  thinking of good Words,  thinking of good Deeds, and Their ways are shining.

XXXVIII We worship the good,  strong and beneficent  Fravashis : that of the most rejoicing  Fire ! that is so beneficent, Who is the incarnate Word ; that of the Light ! That of the Sky ! That of the Waters ! That of the Earth ! That of the Plants ! That of the Living Man ! That of the Holy Creation. XXXIX We worship the Fravashis of those who first listened to the Thought and the Teaching of  Ahura Mazda, of Whom the Ahuras formed the Seed of the Nations.

XL We worship the Fravashi of the Holy Zarathustra, the eternal Man, who first thought what is good, who first spoke what is good, who first did what is good. XLI He was the first Priest, the first Plougher of the Ground,  who first knew and first taught, who first possessed and first took possession of  the Word, the Obedience to the Word, the Dominion, and of all the good things  made by Mazda, that are the offspring of the good Principle. XLII He was the first, in the material world, to pronounce the praise of  ASHA. XLIII He was the first in the material World to speak the Law of the Ahuras. XLIV He was the first, in the material World, to proclaim the Word that destroys the devas ;  He was the first, in the material World, who declared all the creation of the devas  unworthy of sacrifice and efforts. XLV He was strong,  giving all the good things of life ; and the first bearer of the Law amongst the Nations. XLVI He was the lord and master of the World, the praiser of the most great,  most good and most fair  ASHA. XLVII He had a revelation of the Law ;  Zarathustra, that most excellent of Beings. XLVIII For the Victory, made by Ahura, for the Wisdom of the Law, for the unconquerable Power of the Law ; and for the vigor of Health, for the Glory made by Mazda, for the Health of the Body, for a good, virtuous offspring,  wise, bright and clear-eyed ; for a dominion full of Splendor ; for a long, long life, and for all boons and remedies,  we do worship the Fravashis of the Earth, our efforts for Whom and sacrificing to Whom make us good in the eyes of Ahura Mazda.

XLIX We worship the Fravashis of the Earth, the first and the best, as followers of the Ahuras and performers of the Law.

L We invoke the spirit,  conscience, soul, of men of the Law : of the first who listened to the teaching of the Ahuras, who struggled for  ASHA.

LI We invoke Zarathustra, the master of life and the material World, the man of the Law ; the wisest of all beings ; the best ruling of all beings, the brightest of all beings ; the most glorious of all beings ; the most worthy of efforts amongst all beings ; the most worthy of prayer amongst all beings ; the most worthy of invocations amongst all beings, the most worthy of glorification amongst all beings.

LII We worship this Earth ;  we worship those heavens,  we worship those good things  that stand between the Earth and Heaven and that are worthy of efforts and prayer and are to be invoked by the followers of  ASHA.

LIII We invoke the souls of all men and women, who were born at any time, whose consciences struggle, or will struggle, or have struggled, for the good.

LIV We worship the spirit, conscience and soul of the great men who teach the Law and who struggle,  will struggle or have struggled, for  ASHA !
