Had his first confrontation with EM when he was 17 years old. The album: Timewind of Klaus Schulze.
Immediately wanted to make that kind of music too.
Had his first confrontation with EM when he was 9 years old. The album: Phaedra of Tangerine Dream.
Later, when he heard Moondawn of Klaus Schulze he knew he wanted to make that kind of music too.
Buyed his first synthesizer in 1979, a Yamaha CS-10. Sold it in 1983….. Buyed his first synthesizer in 1982, a Korg MS-20. He still ownes that synth…..
Made EM on his own until 1984. Lost his interest in EM from 1984 till 1995. Made Symphonic Rock and Fusion during that period, in many bands as keyboardplayer and as drummer. Bought an old analog synth in 1995 and started to focus on EM again. Became member of Alfa Centauri in 1995. Is releasing solo-albums since 1999. Since March 2003 Gert is making EM with Ruud Heij, of who Gert thinks he is the greatest sequencedesigner of all times.

First years of composing EM, Ruud did it on his own. During the nineties he met René Jansen. Together they formed Patchwork. From then, things went faster. Ruud became a member of Alfa Centauri and met people with whom he started to make music. Most important: Free System Projekt, which is making a pure form of Berlin School. Since March 2003 Ruud is making EM with Gert Emmens, who has EM-influences that differ from FSP and René Jansen.
