     3D Pipe

    1.
This tutorial explains how to create very simple, but nice, rusty pipe. It's a little bit different from most of the "pipe" tutorials out there because it doesn't use the Bevel and Emboss layer effect.

For this tutorial you willneed to create a "base-rust" texture or any other rusty texture.

    2.
Using the Rectangular Marquee tool make a rectangular selection which will define the size of a pipe. Inverse the selection and clear the outside area.
    3.
Create a Color Balance adjustment layer. Set values of Midtones to +23, +35, +28 as shown in the picture. Group the texture layer and the new adjustment layer together.

This will give the picture a little bit of a plastic look.

    4.
Create a new layer. Reset and switch colors (press 'D' and 'X'). Select the Reflected Gradient tool and create a gradient from the center of the pipe to the edge. Group the new layer with the texture and adjustment layers.
    5.
Apply Grain filter (Filter > Texture > Grain), set Intensity to 19, Contrast to 28 and Type to Contrasty (as shown in the picture).
    6.
Set Blending Mode to Color Dodge and its Opacity to 50-60%.
    7.
Duplicate layer with the gradient. Set Blending Mode to Multiply and Opacity to 70-80%.

The main purpose of this tutorial is to demonstrate the technique of two gradient layers. With some minor adjustments you can get a very nice 3D-looking pipe.
