1472

Charles the Bold (ruled 1467-1477) was a warrior that
expanded his territories greatly but lost all. He was killed at Nancy, fighting
the Swiss. He lost many territories to France and Cleves-Juliers. Even Burgundy
proper was lost. So he left a Burgundian Empire without Burgundy to his daughter
Mary the Rich, who married Maximilian of Austria, son of the Holy Roman Emperor
Frederick III, the same Emperor that had agreed to crown Charles a King of
Burgundy, but never showed up for the ceremony.
