Q: Is there anyway of removing the code(s) once set used on the Philips DVD players? A: After entering the code(s), there is, according to the information I have, no way to remove codes. But why do you want to remove codes if the player is regionfree? Q: I have model DVDxxx, does the hack work on this model? A: The hack should work on all models. However, I cannot guarantee this. Please read the "Success reports" list from the hack page. Your model might be listed there. Q: I have used the hack, but when playing region 1 discs, the picture is in black and white. My region 2 disc are in color. What's the matter? A: There are 3 possible causes for this problem. The television you are using does not support NTSC (the american television system) or the DVD player has not been properly connected to the tv. To avoid this problem the DVD player should be connected to the first SCART not the second SCART. The second SCART connection usually does not support RGB and that's the reason your picture is in black and white. The last possibility is that the DVD player's output is not set to RGB. It is still set to S-Video. Q: How does the Philips crack work with disks which interrogate the player region? A: RCE protected disks are no problem with this hack. Q: Do you have any info on removing the Macrovision of Philips DVD players? A: Sorry, I don't have that information yet. I also want the Macrovision disabled, but I have no luck finding code(s) to remove the Macrovision. As soon as I have them, I will put them on my site. Q: Is it possible to downgrade a firmware? A: Officially it is not possible, but with a little trick it can be done. Click here for more details on this. Q: Can something go wrong when I flash (upgrade) my firmware? A: Oh Yes. When flashing you have to be sure that the cd-r disk is readable by the DVD player. There's a way you can verify this. Put the cd-r in a cd-rom player and read it to harddisk. If the reading is succesful, it is probably also readable by the DVD player. There's another thing you have to think about when flashing: Power failure. Unfortunately, you do not control this. I personally think that Philips has taken care of these 2 items when the developing the DVD player, because there'll be a lot of people with a broken player. Q: After the regionfree solution we have a multi region player, and there's no need to type codes to play region 1, region 2, etc DVDs, but is it possible after the 25th turn (playing 1 after 2 or playing 2 after 1 etc.) the last chosen region is freezed? Sounds paranoid I know, but did anybody try it? A: The 25 times switching only applies on entering CODES more than 25 times. Since you have only entered ONE code, the story about 25 times switching does not apply. I got an e-mail from a guy who has actually tried swithing more than 25 times of region. He claims that he has changed regions more than 50 times now. If this is true, it confirms the "does not apply" story. Q: Is my programmable remote of brand X capable of using the hack? A: If you want to know if it can be done using your programmable remote, you'll have to find out yourself. I don't have the means and time to find out if a certain type can be used or not. The ones I know the RC6 command works with, are listed on the site. |
