In Kandrakar, located somewhere where time and
space do not exist, people are concerned about the wall which separates the evil from
the good. After 1000 years of nothing the wall starts to weaken. The Oracle therefore
assigns five girls as the Guardians of the wall. And that's how it begins. Will
and the also newbie Taranee meet their classroom mates Irma, Cornelia, Hay Lin and
Elyon. During the day all girls but Elyon discover their own unusual capabilities
or other strange things. Meanwhile two sinister figures, called Vathek and Cedric,
are out to destroy Will during Halloween. Thanks to the special effects by Uriah
this won't happen. Cedric lays a snare on Elyon and they make an appointment.
That night all five girls dream about the same locket, which is showed the next
day by Hay Lin's grandmother. She clarifies their powers and gives Will the Heart
of Kandrakar. Will makes use of it the same evening as she gets trapped with Irma
and Hay Lin. They transform the first time and they close the first portal.

|
This is nothing but a large overall introduction. We now know the ones
who we will meet in the following episodes, and we know their habits and capabilities.
The story has a fine amount of humor and horror. Only the mysteriousness is somewhat
disappointing.
The first error lies by Irma. In picture 1.8.2 she bears
a pink flower on her necklace. But from page 9 the flower is dark red.
In picture 1.20.2 the wallpaper suddenly lost its stripes.
Picture 1.33.3: an artist's joke: Vathek doesn't like it at all when he sees a boy
wearing a mask being the spitting image of his own phiz.
An example of the
consequences when Irma doesn't take care about her words: her outbreak towards Martin
to salt off makes him vanish without noticing it by herself (pictures 1.33.5 and 6).

|
In picture 1.25.6 you can see three cuddly
toys on Cornelia's bed, but in picture 1.26.3 there are suddenly five of them!

2: The twelve portals
|
A month has passed since Elyon's disappearance.
Hay Lin receives the chart of the twelve portals from her sick grandmother, Yan Lin. The next
morning Yan Lin dies.
Will saves a dormouse's life from the evil intentions of the hooligan Uriah. In
this occasion she meets Matt. Thanks to him Will adopts the dormouse.
A boy, Andrew Hornby, is missing for over a week. Irma confesses she has turned
him into a toad when he attempted to kiss her.
Elyon reappears to lure them into a trap again. She fails and draws back to the
underworld. Our heroines find a book, and later the bewitched Andrew Hornby as well.
This plot is easy to read. It consists of a balanced mixture of misery, danger and
humor. That's all I can say about it. Oh, there is still a question. Why doesn't Will
command the lights to switch on when the power fails by the lightning? She can control
electric apparatus, hm? Well, this would be a storykiller, because we would see Taranee's
fireballs much later by then!
In image 2.9.2 you see a jar of gherkins
standing between Will and Irma, which suddenly is empty in image 2.9.3. The
bottle behind the jar has moved, and an undefined object has disappeared. This
information partially originates from the former Witch-Orube website.
|

But there's more. On the small table between the banks there are three books and some
other objects. On the shelf below the television is another book. Watch the pictures
to what is happening there!
In image 2.46.5 it seems to Hay Lin the exterior of the house
of Elyon looks smaller than its interior. It reminds me of the "Tardis" in the
"doctor Who" science fiction series. Hay Lin loves SF!

3: The other dimension
|
The girls proceed with exploring their powers,
and Irma suspects mrs. Rudolph, the math teacher, as being a monster from the underworld.
Soon enough she finds out that the right is on her side.
Will discovers that her mother has an affair with her behated history teacher mr.
Collins. As the real identity of mrs. Rudolph is unveiled, she returns to the
underworld through a third portal. Shortly after that the secret of the book gets
unveiled: it contains the seal of Phobos. They enter the portal below Elyon's
house and become ambushed. In their attempt to escape Taranee gets captured.
This story is nothing but a quick summary of discoveries. Therefore it looks quite messy.
The maniac hunter Frost should better go to a tailor. His cloak is completely worn out!
|
In image 3.13.1 Will is expected to write something
on the blackboard about the Ruffini theory. Because Witch is a creation of the Italian
Disney Studios, it is no surprise they have chosen for the Italian mathematician
Paolo Ruffini . Will could have written this:
ax5 + bx4 + cx3 +
dx2+ ex + f = 0
In picture 3.8.5 Irma has lost her
necklace!
Watch image 3.57.5. Hay Lin's wings are missing.
And that's the same
with Taranee's wings! (3.49.4)

4: The power of fire
|
Our heroines go out to rescue Taranee. Leaving
their astral drops back in Heatherfield they enter Meridian. In the jail of Meridian
Taranee has to stand the nagging by Elyon. Cedric warns Elyon not to go too far doing
so.
The imperfect astral drop of Will is blundering in everything, which makes Matt a victim
to her. First she kisses him, later that day he gets slapped in the face. After a short
meeting with their former math teacher mrs. Rudolph the girls let themselves captured
by Cedric. He introduces them to the whisperers, who are the court of Phobos. As the
girls are in jail, Elyon is stupid enough to bring Taranee to them. When the truth about
the astral drops is unveiled, Taranee gets enraged and breaks out of her cage. She
releases the others and they return home. Over there Irma receives a revolting message...
Something funny has happened in Will's bedroom. compare image
4.36.5 with image 4.59.1. The bed has been rotated!
|
|
Something else is funny as well. Irma shouts Martin's
name loud enough to be heard by Will. But they live at least two kilometers from each other.
Thus she has to shout with a volume larger than a jet fighter or a rock concert.

5: The last tear
|
Thanks to her stupid astral drop Irma joins Martin
to visit the museum. Once there they get confronted with a monster, which recognizes Irma
as a Guardian. The next evening all five enter the museum to investigate, but again
they become trapped by Elyon, accompanied by Cedric and Vathek. Elyon imprisons the girls
in the painting 'The last tear' by Elias van Dahl. Shortly after that Uriah and his gang
enter the museum to look for monsters... and they find them! They get caught by the police.
The girls meet Elias van Dahl, who tells his story about Phobos, Cedric and the 400-years
imprisonment in his own painting. With the help of the Guardians Elias manages to acquire
the last tear. Cedric sends Frost to prevent the Guardians' escape, but finds the local
citizens and soldiers against him. He draws back and the portal in the painting gets closed.
|
The monster was definitely a bait! It was just a matter
of time before Elyon could strike.
There are lots of errors in the pictures. Some
examples are shown here.
Picture 5.12.1. At the far left you see a boy with
a camera, wearing a red-brown jacket, a jeans and a purple cap with the peak forward. But
in picture 5.12.3 we see him in a brownish green jacket and wearing a blue cap with
the peak at the side. His jeans have an upfolded hem.
Irma has no earrings until
she meets the monster. See therefore the pictures 5.11.6 and 5.13.2.
Things are happening with Cornelia's skirt too. Usually the slit is on the left of the skirt,
but several times it is seen on the right side. You can see that in the pictures 5.19.3,
5.21.5 and 5.27.5. It was also be seen in picture
4.56.3. |
A careless moment of the colorist: Will in the colors of Irma! (5.29.3)
Watch image
5.42.2: Irma's opulent front is gone; only a line next to her left hand proves it had been
there. Fortunately she gets it back the next picture. |
And
Irma again! Just like Hay Lin in "The other dimension" she has lost her wings. (5.56.3).
And in the cathedral her top suddenly turned purple (5.51.6).
And there is more.
The sword which Vathek struck out of Kurt's hands pierced through a painting right into the
wall. Impossible, of course. I don't say the police is stupid, but why didn't they think
about that? And why not mrs. Cook as well?
|
| top |
6: Illusions and lies
|
Phobos has a new idea: Vathek infiltrates in a rebel's
organization, while Cedric and Elyon isolate Will from the rest of the group. Will feels
herself standing alone soon. The other girls meet mrs. Rudolph again. This time she is very
cooperative and invites them at her home, where she informs them about an invasion coming
up the same evening. Meanwhile Will unmasks Elyon. She is almost defeated as Irma comes
up, to take Will to Cedric's bookstore. The battle against the rebellions gets a turning
point when Cedric comes up. The rebellions turn against him and the Guardians are left
for what they are. Then they draw back and the portal gets closed.
Image 6.13.6: Will is not supported in her thoughts about mister Collins (the transformed
Cedric) and walks away. Taranee wants to follow her, but Cornelia halts Taranee. They watch Will
entering the school. However, Taranee has the colors of Will, from head to toe! |
Strange things are happening with the writing-materials of Irma and Taranee during their math
lessons. In image 6.24.4 and 6.24.5 Irma has a green pencil, in image
6.25.1 it's an orange pen, and in image 6.25.4 it's a gray pencil!
Taranee has a pencil with another oddity: in image 6.25.1 the back end is blue,
in the images 6.25.5 and 6.25.6 suddenly turned yellow!
Then another
problem, stretching over the pages 18 to 20. In the bar Will has a conversation with Elyon,
who is transformed into Vera. When Will leaves, she passes the barkeeper Bill. But the
next page (20) it is Cedric! Now here is something wrong! In the beginning Will felt
something funny when she passed Cedric as mr. Collins. But the 'Bill'-version of Cedric
is not detected by her. And that should be the best, or the story was ruined.
Pictures 6.40.6 and 6.41.1: The telephone receiver which Taranee holds against
her ear changes from orange into grey! |
|
Then the turning point at the portal. Vathek interposes as Cedric attacks Will (image 6.56.1).
Watch Vathek's left arm; it has a right hand!
|
| top |
7: Once you'll meet him
|
Cornelia believes there is still something left of
her friendship between her and Elyon. When she enters the bookstore of Cedric she meets
Vathek. He guides Cornelia to Meridian, where she meets Caleb, the boy she always loved
in her dreams. Elyon has got her doubts about Cedric and decides to go into the city
alone. There she sees the results of the cruelty of her elder brother Phobos. When she
gets in trouble Cornelia comes into action and saves Elyon from the soldiers who held
her. In the second attack of the soldiers both girls use an amount of powers which
cause an earthquake, felt in both Meridian and Heatherfield. The four other girls
find a new portal and the palace in the underground. When they got through they
find themselves in the middle of a battle between soldiers and rebellions who
protect Elyon. Thanks to the Guardians the soldiers are defeated.
Why starts Cornelia this love affair with Caleb, while Taranee's brother Peter is so much
a better choice? She knows Caleb stays in Meridian after all!.
This queen is the
lost mother of Elyon and Phobos. Although the why and how is not known by anyone, I suspect
Phobos to be responsible for his parents' disappearance.
Now compare these pictures
with each other. This is Cornelia's bedroom. The design of the bed has changed. A small
carpet has appeared and her cuddly toys are in a different sequence. Her blanket is
suddenly hanging towards the floor like a bedspread.

8: The black roses of Meridian
|
This is some story! Karmilla performs a rock concert
in the local stadium. Will and Hay Lin have their reasons not to attend the show. Cedric
opens a portal below the stadium, followed by Meridians on the run, knowing the wall
between the Metaworld and Earth will collapse. Thanks to her stupid dormouse she meets
Daltar, the gardener of Phobos, who takes care for the black roses, which are all
Meridians stung by the earlier ones. When she remembers Cedric she rushes back,
where she has to defend Vathek against a certain death. It results into a duel,
in which Cedric turns into a real gargoyle. When they find themselves above the
audience in the stadium Irma, Taranee, Cornelia and Hay Lin come up, taking care
for a tremendous climax.
This must be one of the best! In fact not only girls can read this, but their brothers and parents too!
images 8.56.4 to 8.56.6 No picture failures, but imagine this: a squirrel biting
the tail of a nine-meter large monster to protect his master. A real hero!

9: The four dragons
|
Hay Lin has the honor to direct an act for the
Christmas celebration at the Sheffield Institute. To take part of it, Irma needs to
scoop up her French marks. Martin helps her to manage that. But after the test her
name is stroken through from the candidates' list for the act, thanks to the Grumper
girls. Mrs. Rudolph asks the help from the Guardians to find a lost boy from
the Metaworld. The girls travel to Kandrakar to get more help. There the map of
Hay Lin gets destroyed and Yan Lin tells where to find the boy. The Guardians
release him and bring him to his parents.
A nice story with humor, but
with the annoyance about the Grumper girls too. They are a real menace to friendships
and I would strangle them at once when I happen to meet them. Fortunately
Cornelia fooled them in a brilliant way.
Although the story was nice,
it had a chaotic character as well. The worst thing in the story is the
legend about the four dragons itself. These dragons represent the four
elements, but that's a big mistake. The Chinese culture knows five
elements, namely fire, water, earth, wood and metal. As you see,
there is no air element. That would count Hay Lin out. Poor Hay Lin!
In better circumstances I would envy that man behind the desk
when Irma and Cornelia enter to fool him. Who else wouldn't like to
see such unusual girls appear in his room? One scandalous thing. On
the back cover are some Halloween cartoons of Will and Irma, ruined
by an overlay!
For the first time Irma and Taranee are wearing earrings being a Guardian.
See images 9.51.2 and 9.52.3.
|
Two images contain jokes,
particularly about Cornelia. In both pictures you see her in the top left side.
in the first one you also see for example a football player and a basketball player.

has moved toward the wall a little more!

10: A bridge between two worlds
|
The girls start to deal with some terrible threat:
Interpol! Agents Maria Medina and Joel McTiennan investigate the files concerning Elyon
and her 'parents' and want to ask Cornelia some questions, but Cornelia refuses to
cooperate. In Medina's files Cornelia and Irma discover some children's drawings from
Elyon. Vathek visits Will in the name of Elyon requesting for help and rescue Elyon's
adoptive parents. The Guardians are just in time to save them. The other prisoners get
released too and the Guardians get carried through the city by its exalted people.
Elyon makes the prison vanish forever.
As daughters of keepers of law and
justice Irma and Taranee should have known Interpol would come up eventually. Were
they really too distracted by their earlier adventures the last two months?
In image 10.1.3 agent Maria Medina remarks the light has shut down
by the thunderstorm. But in image 10.56.1 McTiennan reminds her the light
has been shut down by the electricity company! Watch the alarm clock in Will's
bedroom in pictures 10.23.2 and 10.30.1. First it was a frog alarm
clock, later it turned into a more regular alarm.
|
It's not just the artists in the Disney studios
who make mistakes; In the Netherlands things will happen too. In picture 10.02.1
Elyon's drawing reads "Papa, Mama en Ikke" (Daddy, Mummy, Me). Picture 10.29.3
however reads "Elyon" instead of "Ikke".
In this issue the pictures seems to
have been sent by fax to the colorist, possibly to reach the deadline.

11: The crown of light
|
The preparation of Elyon's coronation has commenced.
Phobos ensures himself Elyon won't survive that. In addition he creates the Black Guards
from most of the whisperers as a backup elite corps. Maria Medina and Joel McTiennan
already know too much as it is to the girls (and us!). Uriah takes revenge on Nigel;
he puts a stolen watch in Nigel's locker. Martin witnesses this and contacts the girls.
They encourage him to tell all of it to mrs. Knickerbocker. As Uriah and his friends
Kurt and Laurent turn against him, the girls give (invisible) help to Martin, followed
by Nigel. They are right in time as the Guardians arrive in Meridian. They convince
Elyon to join them, leaving an astral drop behind. When Elyon's copy perishes by
the crown, the revolt commences. Phobos deploys his Black Guards. Caleb goes into
a duel against Phobos, but gets changed into a flower. After that Phobos orders
Cedric to burn down the city.
Caleb might be an Adonis, he is incredibly
stupid as well! Fighting Phobos with only a sword invites being defeated! And
that's something Cornelia is aware of.
Image 11.8.1 t/m 3: To tear
down the wall which Cornelia set up to hide the portal below Elyon's house Joel
McTiennan uses a worthless hammer. Keep it that way, buster!
Earrings seem to love to disappear or (re)appear, like in images 11.6.3 and 11.7.2.
Moreover, some beads in Taranee's hair have changed colour!
Watch the Black Guards in
picture 11.29.3. A few lines are missing in one's face. That's the reason why the
colorist had to improvise.
Elyon falls down when she receives the crown. We can
see her in image 11.51.5. but in image 11.53.3 her pose is different:
watch her knees.
In picture 11.53.6 Phobos has lost the crown. But he didn't have the right to get
it after all, eh? Pictures 11.30.5 and 6:
Irma is wearing mitten. But watch page 11.9. She goes to the Sheffield Institute
without them. So the mitten on page 11.30 are not supposed to be there!

12: So be it... for eternity
|
Girls, this is a family level story, so don't hesitate
sharing this with your brothers, parents and lovers!
After drawing back The Guardians,
the rebels and the people of Meridian regroup and prepare new plans to defeat Phobos and his
army for once and for all. While the Meridians tangle the army, Elyon and the Guardians head
for the Palace. Over there Phobos prepares Cedric and himself for the endgame. Elyon
goes into a magic duel with her brother, which almost takes her life. The same time our
five heroines are in a battle with Cedric, who looks most hideous as he has ever been
before. By his strength it takes more time for Will to consider that Cedric only
can be beaten by the Crown of Light. When she manages to do so, all five make the
dangerous magic spell on the crown undone. They make Elyon to release herself and
capture Phobos. In her turn she makes all the evil magic of Phobos undone
before the eyes of her people. Soon after that the five girls arrive to Kandrakar
with both Phobos and Cedric, who get banished to the tower of mist. Then the
Oracle tears down the wall at last!
The friendship between Elyon and the
Guardians is restored. it even looks like Elyon really has missed the jokes of
Irma! Spoken of Irma: she manages to be funny to the end of the story!
Imagine Tibor as Santa Claus... that's something typical to her!
If
you watch closely you see the curls of Will's skirt disappearing every now
and then.
In the previous issue Cedric rips off a piece from Elyon's habit when she wards him off. Yet
he hands over a piece of her dress! This would not make much change to the story;
but Elyon could have been going to the palace in a more suitable clothing.
In picture 12.6.1 Taranee has no wings!
In his attempts to destroy the Crown of
Light Phobos gets wounded in picture 12.11.2. The wound disappears in picture 12.20.3,
and reappears in the next one. Only when he confronts Elyon and the Guardians he has healed
the wound!
Picture 12.14.3: Being close to desperation Phobos transforms Cedric for the last time.
Cedric is bathing in light. Thus Cedric never can cast a shadow of himself! This here is just
impossible.
In image 12.29.4 the colors of Irma's top and skirt are changed!
Pictures 12.17.2 and 12.17.3: Vathek makes it fun to flush Frost and the soldiers
through the sewers. But watch the wheel he's turning! |
In the palace garden two black guards attack the girls. Cornelia wants them for herself to defeat.
in this picture (12.21.4) she is no girl anymore, but a woman!

|
No matter how you put it on, the spell on the crown
still works! Will places it upside down on Cedric's head, but in the following pictures it is
worn the right way!
Picture 12.53.3: Mission accomplished! All of the stress which culminated in them
throughout the story finally falls off.
Check out if there is a puddle below your
monitor. It could be the tears from Will and Irma.
