Mission.

The non-profit foundation “De Vrijplaats” is a platform for artists and their public.

It is a space open for creative expressions.

Positioning.

November 1^st, 2003, Gallery-OpenStudio “De Vrijplaats” started its activities.

“De Vrijplaats” is a transparent space: 100 square meters behind a large glass of 8 by 4 meters.

It’s located in a busy street, in the east-centre of Amsterdam and close to the University of Amsterdam

in the Roetersstraat. Next to the Albert Heijn supermarket.

The space is suited for co-operation among artists, their public and the wider environment.

Now the emphasis is on the exhibition of paintings, sculptures, ceramics and installations.

Other art events, such as readings, workshops, music-sessions, performances, video, fashion, architecture

and literature are very welcomed.

Artists may not only use the Gallery-OpenStudio for exhibits, but are also invited to work here during one month.

Artists from all over the world are invited as individuals or as belonging to a creative group.

In case assistance is required volunteers of the Gallery may give a hand.

So the public may see one or another artist at work !

And the public is free to interact with the artists. Also the public may buy the exhibited art.

In that case the artist will donate 20% of the sum to the foundation.

The board of “De Vrijplaats” decides about the programming of activities.

Generally, activities, such as exhibits last for one month

The donation for the use of the space of 100 m2 for one month is € 800.-

This amount can be divided between two, three, four or more artists. So an artist can

already exhibit and work here for € 200.- a month or less.

“De Vrijplaats” is open monday through saturday from 13.00 till 18.00 hours.

Sundays by appointment.

The realisation of foundation “De Vrijplaats” is supported by the VSBfoundation,

the municipal projectgroup “BroedplaatsAmsterdam”, Stadsdeelraad Centrum and “Woonstichting De Key”.
