19. Bronze figure of a Kuan Yin

  

Kuan Yin or Guan Yin , known as the Goddess of Mercy, is the most popular of the deities of Chinese buddhism. Wide spread through the whole of south-east Asia, she has millions of worshippers. She is the personificaton of the merciful, who hears those who call upon her.

This figure of Kuan Yin is of Chinese-Javanese origin. She is standing on a lotus in Sama Bhanga. In her right hand she is holding what seems to be a book, in her left hand she carries a small vase for oil.

Dark-brown patina. Age: 70-80 years.
