7. Bronze figure of Chinese Buddha with small apprentice

These two figures, a Chinese Buddha and a small apprentice looking up in admiration at his tutor, form a couple. The Buddha is standing with his arms wide on a stylized lotus. He holds a fan in his right hand and a scroll in his left hand. He has a bald head with a clear smile, elongated ears and a big belly, a symbol of wealth. The apprentice is also holding a fan in his right hand and wat seems to be a small oil jug in his left.

The statues are in Javanese style. The Buddha statue is a work of fine craftsmanship and casting. The apprentice got the crude end of the deal, is more crudely cast, probably as a result of a too low casting temperature. But they form an unseparable couple, being the image of each other.
