Curtis Kinnard Hairston was born on October 10, 1961. While attending WSSU his freshman year, he won the "Mr. Ram" contest. Curtis was a professional vocalist, recording for Pretty Pearl Productions, Atlantic Records, and the BB&Q Label.

Hairston's talent was such that Luther Vandross sang backup on his first record. He returned home in 1995 from New York after his health began to deteriorate. Curtis Hairston died of kidney failure January 18th, 1996 at the North-Carolina Baptist Hospital.
