dragon 1:35 scale 10,5 cm sturmhaubitze 42 ausf. G

Dragon 1: 35 scale 10,5 cm Sturmhaubitze 42 ausf.G ---202nd STURM GESCHUTZ brigade KURLAND 1945

the model : highly detailed model ,sometimes a bit tricky to build ,but the result is well worth the time it takes to build this excellent kit. the only aftermarket item i used for this kit were the fruil tracks ATL-83 the ostketten. these tracks were designed for use on the ostfront (eastern front) to prevent the tanks from sinking away in the soft russian soil. the best part of this model is the zimmerit that is on the model ,zimmerit is a special anti mine paste that the germans used on their panzers and sturm geschutze. to prevent the enemy from attaching magnetic mines to the surface of the tank or S.P.G nice touch of detail is the structure of the zimmerit ,it has the so called "waffle pattern" and this pattern of zimmerit was only applied by the german factory of ALKETT in berlin.

this model : sturmhaubitze 42 ausf.g with a 10,5 cm houwitzer gun. STUG brigade 202 KURLAND pocket 1945.

Heeres-Sturmartillerie-Brigade 202 , under army group North . where this stug-abteilung (brigade)was involved in the desperate defense of this pocket in Lithuania.

paint : all done with Gunze hobby color -acrylic paints.

base color: Gunze Khaki brown H404

with a highlight : Gunze sandy yellow H79 mix 70% H404 and 30% H79 to lighten up the parts of the tank that are most exposed to direct sunlight

the gun barrel :base color gunze dark grey H401 ,lighted down with gunze gray fs 36375 H308 ,Mix 80% dark grey H401 and 20% grey H 308. the reason why the barrel had this dark grey color is that some tanks and in this case the self propelled gun has had an replacement barrel. if the original barrel was damaged an replacement barrel was fitted ,but these barrels were in their original factory paint, and had to be painted after they were fitted on the tank or S.P.G . this was not always done by the crews, because of lack of paint or time or...who knows..?

the road wheels were doen with :tamiya XF-69 nato black which is a dark greyish color ,which resembles the color of rubber pretty good.

after the base color i used a filter from mig P241 brown for dark yellow ,and i think i did 2 or perhaps 3 layers. this filter really altered the base color and brought much more detail in it. after this the usual (pin)washes and paint chips etc were made.

the figure....i'm not really satisfied with the figure. i used an hornet head on the figure but still it didn't come out the right way...

the hands are a bit crude and so is the rest of the figure...but for now i leave it like it is,perhaps someday i find a better figure for the stuh 42. In all ,it has been a very nice kit to build and paint and hopefully it looks a bit realistic ? ......next !!
